Bridgestone was founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi in Japan, as a successor to his family clothing and shoe business. At the time, British and American products had a good reputation, so in order to make his product more desirable, Ishibashi translated his name from Japanese to English which literally means ‘stone bridge’ and so Bridgestone was created, the first ever Japanese tyre manufacturer.
