Originally a German rubber manufacturing company, Continental, or to give the company its full title, Continental-Caoutchouc und Gutta-Percha Compagnie began producing plain tread tyres in 1898. In 1904 the business went on to make grooved tyres and it was the first company in the world to do so, creating a tread style that is not dissimilar to our tyres today.
