Using money borrowed from his brother-in-law, founder Frank Seiberling opened the first Goodyear factory in Akron, Ohio, in 1898. Before the invention of the motor vehicle, the company manufactured tyres for carriages and bicycles. As cycling became a popular pastime, the Goodyear business boomed.
