Winter Tyres
At first thought, it may seem like an expensive option, shelling out for a whole new set of tyres for the winter months, but if you think about it, while you're using your winter tyres, you're saving wear and tear on your summer tyres, so they'll last longer. It all evens out in the end, and using winter tyres can be very beneficial, particularly if you drive a lot in winter for work or to drop the kids off at school.
There are no legal requirements for you to fit winter tyres, however, on those days when it's icy or thick with snow, but you simply must go out in the car, you'll be grateful you opted to buy winter tyres! Your winter tyres don't have to be super expensive, you can find some good winter tyre deals online, with many retailers also offering finance options to spread the cost of payment.

It's about temperature, not snow
Three things make a winter tyre different — and all three work on a cold, dry morning too.
Softer cold-weather compound
Extra silica and natural rubber keep the tread flexible below 7°C, so it grips the road instead of skating over it.
Thousands of sipes
Fine slits across the tread act like tiny claws, biting into ice and packed snow for traction summer tyres can't match.
Deeper water channels
Wide grooves pump away slush and standing water, keeping rubber on tarmac and cutting aquaplaning risk.
October to March is winter tyre season
The 7°C rule makes it simple: when average daily temperatures drop below 7°C, winter tyres grip better — snow or not. In most of the UK that's from late October until March.
Fit them in pairs or all four (we recommend all four), and we'll swap them back in spring. Many of our centres offer tyre storage, so your summer set doesn't have to live in the shed.
